Overview

Hot-dip galvanized (GI) steel coil provides zinc-coated feedstock for roofing sheet manufacturing, ducting and general fabrication. A roofing RFQ should include the profile drawing, base-metal thickness, width and coil limits of the roll-forming line. Specify the grade within its governing standard and state the zinc coating designation separately; a familiar grade name does not define the coating mass. Agree spangle, surface treatment and any forming checks before comparing quotations. If a buyer requests Z275 or another coating class, confirm that combination with the grade, dimensions and inspection basis in the quotation. Narrow feedstock belongs on the galvanized strip route, with slit width and edge requirements. For painted roofing, compare PPGI or PPGL and add paint-film and color requirements. Packing, coil identification and moisture protection should match the storage and sea-freight plan.

What does Z275 mean on a GI order?

Z275 is a coating-mass designation used with the governing product standard. State the standard and designation together because reporting basis and tolerances must follow that document and the accepted order.

When should I buy GI strip instead of full-width coil?

Use the strip family when the finished slit width, width tolerance, edge condition or narrow-coil packing is a purchasing requirement. Use this page for full-width coil or cut sheet.

How should I choose spangle and surface treatment?

Match regular, minimized or zero spangle and passivated, Cr-free, oiled or dry treatment to appearance, forming and storage needs. Put the selected combination on the RFQ and PO.

How is white-rust risk controlled?

Agree dry handling, passivation or oil where applicable, moisture-barrier wrapping, edge protection, storage conditions and destination climate before packing release. No packing duration is guaranteed without an approved order basis.
